The State Puppet Theatre named after H.Tumanian is one of the most interesting places of entertainment in Yerevan, popular with both children and adults, Yerevan inhabitants and guests of the capital-city. It was founded in 1935 and is housed in an original building interesting for its inner design.
This theater has a long and eventful history. For over 64 years of its existence about 12 millions of spectators have enjoyed more than 240 performances and shows put on its stage. Brilliant works by A.Pushkin, A.Tolstoi, W.Shakespeare, J.Swift, M.Twain, K.Gozzi, G.C.Andersen and famous Armenian writers were successfully staged here.
The State Puppet Theatre has repeatedly participated in international festivals of puppet theaters in Moscow (1937, 1976), Tashkent (1979), Yerevan (1982), Tbilisi (1984), Bekeschaba (Hungary – 1981) and Tehran (1989, 1994, 1998).
The theater has frequently been on tour in Russia, Ukraine, Georgia, India, Syria, Yemen and other countries of the world. It is a Member of UNIMA.
The distinctive feature of its productions is the diversity of expressive means as well as other elements of dramatic art.
The repertory always includes popular performances for adults. There are two interesting performances that are currently on: “Under the Star of Bethlehem” and “Comedy of Errors” by W. Shakespeare.
