The Republican Center of Aesthetical Education, which boasts the first children’s picture gallery in the world, is one of the places of interest in Yerevan. On March 13, 1970 a children’s art gallery opened in Yerevan. Apart from periodical shows, there is a permanent exposition which rates the gallery in the rank of museums. The permanent exposition displays works of high standard. This large building has several exhibition halls, studios, a concert hall and a library. At different times the Gallery has arranged exhibitions of children’s works from the former Soviet republics, from Britain, Bulgaria, Canada, Czechoslovakia, France, Germany, Hungary, India, Japan, Poland, Romania, the USA and Yugoslavia. Every year it holds several “one-man” shows of artists, aging from three to sixteen. In keeping with traditions all the pictures are kept by the Gallery which already has a unique collection of more than 100 000 works of children from more than 130 countries of the world.
